Welcome to Quincy,

The Gem City on the Mississippi

Driving Directions- From Chicago take 55 S to Springfield. South of Bloomington at Funk's Grove (exit 149) is a rest-stop that my father designed.  In Springfield take 72 W to 172 towards Quincy.  Once there, get off at the Broadway exit and turn left into town.

Driving Directions – From St. Louis take Route 61 North.  Once in Hannibal, cross the river into Illinois and proceed on 72 E/36 E.  Switch over to 172 North towards Quincy, get off at the Broadway exit, and turn left into town.

Directions to The Villa Kathrine: The wedding will be held on Sunday, September 5th, 2010, at four o'clock in the afternoon, at the Villa Kathrine.  To get there, head west on Broadway to North 3rd Street.  Turn left and proceed south until you pass State Street (slightly less than a mile).  Turn right into The Villa Kathrine.

Amtrak schedule from Chicago to Quincy can be found at Amtrak.com.  The Amtrak Illinois Zephyr is a faster and very comfortable option to driving.  It services Quincy twice a day and is surprisingly easy. The Quincy station is relatively far from downtown; contact the hotels for transportation information or take a cab. Diamond Cab can be reached at 217-222-6820; fare to the Hampton Inn is $12-$15 plus tax.

Hotel information- We have group rates for $90/night at the Stony Creek Inn (at 217-223-2255 at 3809 Broadway) or for $79/night at the Hampton Inn (217-224-8378 at 225 S 4th St).

Make it a Vacation!  - Stop in Springfield for a famous 'horseshoe sandwich' or see the Lincoln sites - visit-springfieldillinois.com. Go north to Nauvoo & experience the restored village, as it was when the Mormons first settled it - beautifulnauvoo.com.  Cross the 'old-muddy' Mississippi River & head over to Hannibal to see the locations & cave that inspired the Tom Sawyer books - visithannibal.com.  Consider even driving down to Saint Louis to enjoy the Gateway Arch or Grant's Farm - explorestlouis.com.  Or you simply stay in Quincy & enjoy our local sites; from the mansion of the twelfth Governor of IL, John Wood, to a walking tour of my East End neighborhood, filled with turn of the century mansions (and one Lustron house too!)  Get many other ideas at seequincy.com.

Sept 4th- Everyone who is in town on Saturday is invited to stop by my parents' house at 1866 Grove Ave for a light supper & informal gathering the night before the wedding.  Festivities start at 5PM.  Please contact me at 708-646-8457 or my mother Liz at 217-222-5295 for directions or any questions.
